Abstract

A binding investigation with social and literary studies is presented, regarding the Banana Massacre, which took place in 1928, in Colombia; as well as the workers' massacre of Guayaquil, of 1922. It is intended to establish its characteristics, versions, contexts and similarities, based on studies related to the approach that is recreated in the literary works representative of said events: Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude), by Gabriel García Márquez, for the first case, and Las cruces sobre el agua (The crosses on the wate), by Joaquín Gallegos Lara, for the second. It seeks to subtract investigative findings that, with the pertinent confrontation, allow to draw conclusions, from social and literary studies, that favor the elucidation of common points that lead to reconstructing historical memory.

The type of research considered is qualitative, with a comparative hermeneutical design, taking into account, in turn, the interdisciplinary exercise between history and literature. From this, it is estimated, as a research problem, what parallel can be subtracted from Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude) and Las cruces sobre el agua (The crosses on the wate) around the context of the Banana Massacre and the Workers' Massacre of Guayaquil, respectively, from two references of the literary canon in Colombia and Ecuador. To this end, the main objective is to analyze, from social and literary studies, the scenarios and circumstances of these massacres, based on their main literary records. Thus, the resolution of the hypothesis is projected: the Banana Massacre and the Guayaquil workers massacre have validity in historical memory, thanks, to a considerable extent, to the gestation of their representative literary works.
