Abstract

The 25 Nursing careers nationwide underwent evaluation and accreditation processes starting in 2017 by the Council for Evaluation, Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education (CEAACES, by its Spanish acronym), now Council for Quality Assurance of Higher Education (Known by its Spanish acronym CACES). Immersed in this process was the Nursing program at UTMACH, established in 1983 as part of the Faculty of Chemical and Health Sciences. Therefore, a diagnostic process was undertaken to identify strengths and weaknesses through a self-assessment. Subsequently, an improvement plan was developed to generate conditions that allow, on the one hand, to strengthen and consolidate the positive findings, guaranteeing their long-term sustainability, and, on the other hand, to take corrective and preventive actions, if applicable, of the improvement opportunities found. All this is based on the continuous improvement of the academic and administrative processes of the Higher Education Institutions (HEI).

The objective of the exercise was to effectively involve authorities, academic and support staff, administrative personnel, and students by establishing agreed-upon activities, responsibilities, deadlines, and evidence in the Strengthening Plan, generating corrective actions, and taking measures to overcome the evaluation process and obtain accreditation.

The Self-evaluation had as a reference the Model of evaluation of the learning environment of the Nursing career in October 2016, with an update in April 2017 and, later, a new update in July 2022. For this purpose, an instrument generated by UTMACH Quality Assurance Direction was developed and implemented, leading to operationalizing the exercise, considering criteria, indicators, and weightings, resulting in an approximate result that enabled immediate and medium-term decisions to be made, supported with a follow-up and control that constitute necessary tools for the fulfillment of the objectives.
