Leadership styles and organizational climate: a correlational study at the School of Military Engineering "Gral. Guillermo Rodríguez Lara"

Abstract

The present work was developed with the objective of identifying the relationship between leadership styles and organizational climate in the School of Military Engineering "General Guillermo Rodriguez Lara" ESINGM. In order to fulfill this purpose, it was proposed to identify the existing perception of the instructors of the ESINGM, about the leadership and organizational climate promoted in this educational institution. For this purpose, a non-experimental research design was proposed, with a quantitative approach, and a descriptive correlational scope, with a cross-sectional cut. Field work was carried out on the basis of an intentional, non-random sample of 44 members of the institution. This research is positioned in the transformational, transactional and Laissez Faire leadership styles, whose approach is based on Bass' leadership (1985). The survey of leadership styles CELID S, proposed by Castro et al. (2007), was used as an instrument for collecting information, which achieved a Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient above 0.876. The measurement of organizational climate is based on personal, group, extrinsic and intrinsic organizational factors, using the organizational climate measurement instrument proposed by Hernández et al. (2016), which achieved a Cronbach's Alpha above 0.960. The results of this research allowed concluding that the leadership styles variable is not related to organizational climate, because they reached a significance greater than 0.05. However, these two variables are perceived as good according to the scale used.
