Abstract

The present study was born from the "Bridges" chair, which, by taking advantage of the different typologies presented by these structures located on the Burgay river in the city of Azogues, was intended to study their geometry, typology and material, with field trips. But during the inspections carried out, several problems were identified, which led to the generation of a specific study of the pathologies of the bridges located in the urban area of the city. The absence of preventive maintenance of the same was evidenced. It is mainly observed humidity, vegetation, corrosion, carbonation, permanent deflection and lack of elements such as expansion joints and neoprenes. Seven bridges were evaluated, the first being the García Moreno bridge, located in front of the Homero Castanier Crespo Hospital, and the study was completed on the bridges built on Av. 16 de Abril. This analysis contemplates structures with materials such as reinforced concrete, steel, masonry. As typologies, there are various forms, bridges on beams, both in reinforced concrete, and mixed (steel - concrete), bridges in face and post-tensioned. It is concluded that corrective maintenance is necessary as soon as possible and later have a preventive maintenance plan, which guarantees the useful life and adequate structural behavior of these important structures.
