Abstract

This paper presents the result of the adaptation of the management methodology proposed by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in the PMBOK® to managing worker health and safety in construction operations. Certain investigations have demonstrated that the management methodology proposed by the PMI can be adopted to any reality in the world. The main objective of this research was to determine the extent to which the PMBOK® safety management methodology can be extrapolated to the reality of construction in the city of Cuenca. The methodology used was descriptive with a qualitative approach, based on normative and scientific documentary data. The management model presented has the three groups indicated in the PMBOK®: Inputs, Tools and Outputs, with a view to generalizing the process so that it can be applicable to construction at the national level in Ecuador.
