Limitación del Soporte Vital en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos: Una Orientación Bioética

Resumen

La medicina ha tenido una vanguardia científica con valiosos desarrollos tecnológicos en las unidades de cuidados intensivos pediátricos, sin embargo, estos tratamientos invasivos y onerosos en niños con patologías que limitan la vida prolongan la muerte sin mayores beneficios. Por lo que, la orientación bioética hacia la limitación del soporte vital permite una muerte digna en pacientes pediátricos con enfermedades irreversibles.

Por consiguiente, se elaboró una revisión de la bibliografía interdisciplinar existente bajo metodología Prisma con criterios de inclusión: artículos científicos revisados por pares en inglés y español, desde el 1ero de enero de 2018 hasta el 30 de septiembre de 2022, con las bases de datos: Cochrane Library, Pubmed, ProQuest, Science Direct y Scopus con Palabras Clave: “Defensa del Niño”, “Ética”, “Futilidad”, “No Intentar Resucitar”, “Toma de Decisiones”. De lo cual emergen cuatro temas relevantes: 1) futilidad; 2) sufrimiento; 3) criterios clínicos; e 4) interés superior del niño, que en conjunto orientan desde la bioética la limitación del soporte vital en el paciente pediátrico crítico con enfermedades que limitan la vida.
