Abstract

Introduction: Dentists have a series of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) associated with ergonomics, this study seeks to analyze the available evidence about the frequency and factors associated
with wrist and hand MSDs.
Materials and Methods: The bibliographic search was carried out in PUBMED, SCIELO, LILACS;
through 5 search trees with keywords indexed in MESH and DECS. The selected articles were reviewed by the researcher and those that met the inclusion criteria were later incorporated.
Results: 26 studies were selected, the average found among these studies was 29% with 95% CI
(28.5%-30.3%). The lowest value of TME was 1%, the highest was 97%.
Conclusions: The frequency of TMEdMM in dentists is high. Risk factors such as female gender,
standing up, repetitive movements, over 40 years seem to be proven. Others like; workload, physical activity, smoking, should be studied with better designs or larger samples.
