Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: With the increase in life expectancy, pathologies appear in the same way in humans and arterial hypertension or HT in the long-lived person, constitutes one of the most progressive and chronic problems in their health; generating a latent risk in your life due to the progressive increase in blood pressure, being an alarming factor for the development of cardiovascular incidents.

Objective: To determine the risk factors for arterial hypertension in the elderly from six gerontological centers in the city of Cuenca; analyzing and contrasting the signology of the individual as well as their psychobiological and eating habits.

Methodology: The research was developed through a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive approach, handling a non-probabilistic sample of one hundred and one older adults who attend non-residential gerontological centers, to improve their quality of life and improve their emotional and pathophysiological homeostasis. The questionnaire used in the research sample is called "Cardiovascular Risks in the Elderly", which is an inventory that evaluates vital signs and basic activities of daily life.

Conclusions: Based on the instruments used, it could be determined that more than 54% of the elderly surveyed have systolic and diastolic blood pressure higher than normal ranges; corroborating the presence of arterial hypertension, resulting from the effort made by the heart according to its chronological age.
