Abstract

The objective of this research is to characterize orthodox behavior in users of two of the most opening and demanding gyms in the city of Cuenca, which are the "Gorila Gym" and "Dorian Gym"; determining the different sociodemographic and socio-psychological characteristics in relation to said problem and identifying the manifestations and associations of the orthorexia with said assumptions in the selected sample. The research is based on a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach, using a non-probabilistic sample of one hundred people who exercise daily in the aforementioned gymnasiums between the ages of sixteen and forty-six. The data were processed using the statistical package Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0, to use frequency analysis, measures of central tendency, dispersion and association. The instrument used of psychometric properties and that was analyzed through the study sample is known as "ORTHO-15”, whose result determines the orthodexic behavior and consists of 15 items of simple comprehension, with a score between one and four per question. Finally, it is suggested to use the instrument in other populations of the region with the purpose of ratifying the presence of orthorexia and later reporting the damages that it can cause in the human being.
