Abstract

Introduction: oral mucositis is one of the most frequent undesired side effects in cancer patients who receive treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. There are various therapeutic options with the aim of preventing the appearance and progression of lesions and improving the patient's quality of life. Objective: to analyze the different therapeutic options for patients with oral mucositis who are undergoing oncological treatment. Methodology: A descriptive, bibliographic review type study was carried out with information obtained from Scopus, Scielo, Pubmed, BVS (Virtual Health Library), MEDLINE, COCHRANE using boolean operators obtained in DeCS and MESH. Development: the management of patients with oral mucositis is based on: control of symptoms, promoting healing of lesions, avoiding infection and emotional care. Conclusion: attention to complications due to the effects of antineoplastic therapy in oncological treatment is essential to guarantee a good patient outcome.
