Abstract

As simple as it may seem, second and third-generation family businesses face yet another challenge; in addition to the problems of succession, political games to achieve the best position with respect to their organization, and the complex socio-economic transition to avoid losing market share, suddenly globalization arrives and with it, the much talked about digital transformation. The objective of this article is to briefly detail how family businesses operate, and the direct relationship with the information they handle on a daily basis. Descriptive research of digital documents obtained from Google Scholar, Scopus, Latindex, Dialnet, among others, was carried out. Documents containing information on family businesses, data management, data governance, and digital transformation were included; and documents that presented ambiguity or were not sufficiently clear with the research topic were excluded. In conclusion, the family business is one where family groups, one or more, will achieve through political games and negotiation of limits and priorities, set the business strategy of the same, in order to maintain control of ownership and generational continuity.
