Abstract

According to the research, the psychosocial impact that COVID-19 had on adolescents in Ecuador was devastating; the consequences affected all aspects of their life, particularly their psychosocial development. The objective was to analyze the psychosocial impact on mental health due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Ecuadorian adolescent group. The methodology is based on a descriptive-theoretical documentary analysis, with a qualitative approach of a non-experimental design, using articles related to the psychosocial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescents in Ecuador, published in scientific databases such as Dialnet, SciELO, Scopus, Springer, PubMed, Latindex, Taylor & Francis, and Web of Science; with the keywords: pandemic, COVID-19, psychological, adolescence, and social. The results, based on several studies, showed that the psychological and social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ecuador had a significant impact on adolescents, as several surveys among them showed high and moderate levels of depression, anxiety, stress, and OCD. In conclusion, adolescents represent a vulnerable population during the COVID-19 health emergency and are therefore considered a high-risk group concerning emergency events. As a result, they developed signs of anxiety, depression, stress, obsessions, compulsions, apathy, irritability, and frustration regarding changes in their daily routines due to the strategies adopted by the government, such as social isolation. Consequently, limitations on daily activities led to internal chaos in adolescents and conflicts when managing emotions.
