Abstract

Obesity is a chronic degenerative disease with worldwide impact, it affects human beings in physiological, psychogenic and socio-environmental states, it is characterized by comorbidity with Axis I psychopathological disorders, the most frequent being mood and anxiety disorders. Within its bariatric surgical approach, the active multidisciplinary intervention of the clinical psychologist is required, both before and after surgery, in order to guarantee efficient results; The cognitive behavioral therapeutic model will be our starting point as an efficient resource in this research. Problematic: Bariatric surgeries are performed worldwide under two concepts: health and aesthetics; such as the patient's health need, to improve her quality of life and state of well-being; In hospital homes, this joint work with mental health professionals is rarely carried out, in those cases that it is, the effectiveness of their pre- and post-surgical intervention is effective. Objectives: The general objective is to determine the role of the clinical psychologist in the pre and post operative intervention in patients who have undergone Bariatric Surgery and their intervention with cognitive behavioral therapy. Method: The study is based on a descriptive documentary theoretical analysis, with information from 2012 onwards, in Latin American and European countries. Conclusion: It was stated that the role of the clinical psychologist in the pre and post-surgical process is of the utmost importance, as well as the recognition of the intervention protocols of cognitive behavioral techniques.
